Creating Links
This guide covers everything you need to know about creating links in LegendLinks, from simple links to advanced configurations.
Quick Start: Simple Link
Step 1: Navigate to Add New
- Go to LegendLinks → Links
- Click "+ New Link" button (or LegendLinks → Add New)
Step 2: Enter Basic Information
- Target URL: The destination URL (required)
- Title: Friendly name for your link (optional)
- Slug: Short part of your link (auto-generated if empty)
Step 3: Save
Click Save Link - that's it! Your link is ready.

For more control, use the advanced link editor with tabs.

Basic Info Tab
Essential link information.
Target URL
- Required: Yes
- Description: The destination URL users will be redirected to
- Format: Full URL with
http://orhttps:// - Example:
https://example.com/product
Title
- Required: No
- Description: Friendly name for your link
- Use Case: Organization, search, identification
- Example: "Summer Sale Product"
Slug
- Required: No (auto-generated if empty)
- Description: Short part of your link
- Format: Lowercase, hyphens, numbers (no spaces)
- Example:
summer-sale - Result:
yoursite.com/go/summer-sale - Best Practice: Use descriptive, memorable slugs
Redirect Type
- Options:
- 301 Permanent - Best for SEO (recommended) - Available in all plans
- 302 Temporary - For campaigns - Available in all plans
- 307 Temporary - Preserves request method - Available in all plans
- JavaScript - For tracking scripts - Pro plan or higher
- Meta Refresh - HTML redirect - Pro plan or higher
- Cloaked - Iframe-based (hides destination URL) - Pro plan or higher
- Stealth Redirects - Randomized paths (bypasses ad-blockers) - Pro plan or higher
- Default: 301 Permanent
- Recommendation: Use 301 for most links
Link Attributes
- Nofollow: Tells search engines not to follow
- Sponsored: Indicates sponsored/affiliate link
- UGC: User-generated content link
- Recommendation: Enable Nofollow + Sponsored for affiliate links
Status
- Active: Link is live and redirecting
- Inactive: Link is disabled
- Scheduled: Link will activate/deactivate on schedule
Categories & Tags
- Categories: Organize links into groups
- Tags: Add labels for filtering
- Use Case: Organization, bulk operations, filtering
Advanced Tab
Advanced redirect and behavior options.
Redirect Delay
- Description: Delay before redirect (milliseconds)
- Default: 0ms (instant)
- Use Case: Allow tracking scripts to fire
- Example: 500ms delay for analytics
Open in New Tab
- Description: Opens link in new browser tab
- Default: Disabled
- Use Case: Keep users on your site
Preserve Query Parameters
- Description: Pass query parameters to target URL
- Default: Enabled
- Example:
yoursite.com/go/link?ref=social→target.com?ref=social
Link Scheduling
- Start Date: When link becomes active
- End Date: When link expires
- Use Case: Time-limited campaigns, promotions
Custom CSS Classes
- Description: Add custom CSS classes to link
- Use Case: Styling, JavaScript targeting
UTM Parameters Tab
Add tracking parameters automatically.
Enable UTM Parameters
- Description: Automatically append UTM parameters to target URL
- Default: Disabled
Campaign Source
- Example:
google,facebook,newsletter - Description: Where traffic originates

Rotation / A/B Tab
Test multiple URLs with weighted distribution.
Note: URL Rotation / A/B Testing is available in Pro, Plus, and Business plans.
Enable URL Rotation
- Description: Allow multiple target URLs for this link
- Use Case: A/B testing, weighted distribution
- Plan Requirement: Pro plan or higher
Rotation Targets
Add multiple URLs with weights:
Example:
- URL 1:
https://example.com/variant-a(Weight: 30%) - URL 2:
https://example.com/variant-b(Weight: 50%) - URL 3:
https://example.com/variant-c(Weight: 20%)
Weighted vs. Equal Split
- Weighted: Use percentages (e.g., 30%, 50%, 20%)
- Equal Split (A/B Mode): Set all weights to 0 for equal distribution
- Total Weight: Should equal 100% (or 0 for equal split)
Analytics Per Variant
- View click counts for each variant
- Track performance
- Make data-driven decisions
Best Practices:
- Start with equal split for A/B testing
- Use weighted distribution for proven winners
- Monitor analytics to optimize weights

Geo/Device Tab
Target users by location or device.
Note: Geo-Targeting and Device Targeting are available in Pro, Plus, and Business plans.
Geo-Targeting
Redirect users based on country.
Enable Geo-Targeting:
- Description: Redirect based on user's country
- Supported: 249 countries
- Plan Requirement: Pro plan or higher
Country-Specific URLs:
- US:
https://example.com/us - UK:
https://example.com/uk - Default: Fallback URL for other countries
Example:
- US users →
example.com/us-product - UK users →
example.com/uk-product - Others →
example.com/product(default)
Device Targeting
Redirect based on device type.
Plan Requirement: Pro plan or higher
iOS Targeting:
- Enable: Redirect iOS users to App Store
- App Store URL: Your app's App Store link
- Fallback: Default URL if App Store unavailable
Android Targeting:
- Enable: Redirect Android users to Play Store
- Play Store URL: Your app's Play Store link
- Fallback: Default URL if Play Store unavailable
Example:
- iOS users → App Store link
- Android users → Play Store link
- Desktop/Other → Default URL
Best Practices:
- Use for app promotion campaigns
- Always set fallback URLs
- Test on actual devices
Health & Fallback Tab
Monitor link health and set fallbacks.
Link Health Monitoring
- Status: Healthy, Broken, Unknown
- Last Checked: When health was last verified
- Auto-Check: Enabled in Settings → Self-Healing
Fallback URL
- Description: URL to redirect to if main link breaks
- Use Case: Ensure links always work
- Example: Homepage or "Link Unavailable" page
Auto-Activate Fallback
- Description: Automatically use fallback when main link breaks
- Default: Enabled (if Self-Healing is enabled)
- Recommendation: Enable for critical links
Health Check Frequency
- Controlled by: Settings → Self-Healing → Health Check Frequency
- Options: Daily, Weekly, Monthly
- Default: Daily
Email Notifications
- Description: Receive email when link breaks
- Controlled by: Settings → Self-Healing → Email Notifications
- Recipients: Site administrator
Best Practices:
- Always set a fallback URL
- Enable auto-activate for important links
- Monitor health status regularly
Link Creation Workflow
Simple Link (Quick)
- Enter Target URL
- (Optional) Enter Slug
- Click Save
Standard Link (Recommended)
- Basic Info: Target URL, Title, Slug, Redirect Type
- Link Attributes: Enable Nofollow/Sponsored if needed
- Categories/Tags: Organize
- Click Save
Advanced Link (Full Control)
- Basic Info: Complete all fields
- Advanced: Set redirect delay, scheduling
- UTM Parameters: Add tracking (if needed)
- Rotation/A/B: Set up testing (if needed)
- Geo/Device: Configure targeting (if needed)
- Health & Fallback: Set fallback URL
- Click Save
Tips & Best Practices
Slug Naming
- ✅ Use lowercase
- ✅ Use hyphens (not underscores)
- ✅ Keep it short and memorable
- ✅ Avoid special characters
- ❌ Don't use spaces
Redirect Types
- 301: Permanent redirects (SEO-friendly)
- 302: Temporary campaigns
- Cloaked: Only if ad-blockers are blocking
Organization
- Use Categories for broad organization
- Use Tags for specific filtering
- Create Templates for common link types
Testing
- Test links after creation
- Verify redirect works
- Check analytics are tracking
- Test on different devices (if using device targeting)
